New Music and More

I recently discovered an online music station called Soma FM. It's pretty great. They are these pre-programmed music selections, commercial- and dj-free, with titles like "Indie Pop Rocks" and "Secret Agent." Seriously great background music. A source of endless entertainment, really, because I can't resist creeping around my house like a real secret agent when this music is playing in the background.

Tomorrow is Miles' night to choose dinner. Earlier this week he was threatening Burger King. Oy. Let's hope he changes his mind. I, for one, do not intend to remind him of his past wanton desires.

Finished marking the first batch of essays last night. Hand them back tomorrow.

I went to the recording studio today for 3 hours. I knew it would be tight, but had hoped that 3 hours would be enough time for me to finish recording my song, but it wasn't. My three pages of Times New Roman, 10-point font, with multiple harmonies and voices, got the best of me. I am somewhere around halfway through the second page of the song. There's a certain point in my recording where you hear me start to panic and the whole thing degenerates into a whole lot of badness. I have to present it on Monday and have sent a heartfelt plea to my teacher, via email, begging him to let me into the studio tomorrow even though I haven't given the requisite 48 hours notice.

On Wednesday I have a book review due. It's supposed to snappy and witty and I think I'm in trouble there. Wish me luck.

Time just feels like it's flying by. We leave for Palm Springs in 1.5 weeks. I barely remember what summer feels like, so I can't really mentally go "there." All I can say is this: I plan to bring work with me.

The week after we get back I have a presentation to prepare, a paper to write, and my students submit their term papers. Then Rachel's wedding is two weeks later and we dive straight into end of term papers and exam-marking. I'm having mild heart palpitations just thinking about how I will survive past March, let alone making it through April.

I've also been busy registering Miles in "stuff." He is now signed up for Swimming in March, something called Dress Up Drama from April-June, Soccer until the end of April, Baseball starting in May, and I'm thinking about signing him up for Piano lessons as soon as I can get my hands on a keyboard on which he can practise. If you can think of any other fun things to do with kids during the summer, please let me know. Just don't ask me how much this all costs.

I'm sure I've had more than this buzzing about my brain lately, it just seems like I've been forgetting so much these days. I had to go out and buy a dayplanner just to keep my whereabouts and the places where I committed to be in sync. Still, the business of my life is best proven by the stacks of paper on the shelf next to my computer and on my kitchen table.

Did I mention that I'm happy? I am. I quite like being this busy! I'm really looking forward to doing all this stuff...
